Chase in Racine Ends With Injuries to Uninvolved Driver

(WGTD)---A police chase in Racine early Saturday evening resulted in serious injuries to a driver who wasn't involved in the pursuit.

According to a news release from police, a 36-year-old man who'd been fleeing from police blew a stop sign at Victory and Lathrop and crashed into a vehicle. 

The driver of the third vehicle--a 72-year-old man from Racine--was airlifted to a Milwaukee area hospital with what were described as "critical" injuries.

The driver of the offending vehicle--a 36-year-old man--was jailed.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office is investigating. 

The incident set off a barrage of social media comments between those calling for greater restraint by police in such pursuits and those defending the action's of officers.
