(WGTD)---The identity of the operator who plans to build a data center campus off of STH 142 west of I-94 in Kenosha has been revealed. It's Microsoft.

WGTD first reported the story last fall. Private landowners want to sell 242 acres to a company that wants to put up four large buildings on the tract of land. Kenosha Mayor Dave Bogdala called the development a "game-changer" for the community. At the time, the identity of the operator was a closely guarded secret.

In a joint news release Monday from the city, county, the Kenosha Area Business Alliance and the Milwaukee 7 Regional Partnership, Microsoft was revealed as the company.

The release said the Kenosha complex would be in addition to Microsoft's plans for Mt. Pleasant. Microsoft is building a data center campus in the Racine County village on land originally targeted for Foxconn.

At a Kenosha Plan Commission meeting last fall, officials said the Kenosha data center campus would include some type of power-generating component.
